Case study: Installing an industrial door in Birmingham

The Secure Door Systems team travels across the UK, installing off-the-shelf and tailor-made doors at commercial and industrial premises. Recently, we made the trip down from our base in Stockport to see a client in Birmingham.

The customer

For this project, our customers were Syncreon and Jaguar Land Rover. Jaguar Land Rover needs no introduction. But for those who aren’t familiar with Syncreon, here’s a quick rundown.

Syncreon is a logistics and operations company that supports the work of many well-known brands in the automotive, consumer goods and tech manufacturing industries.

The firm has locations across all continents. But its UK operations are based around Birmingham and the Midlands. Here in the UK, one of Syncreon’s clients is Jaguar Land Rover. And it was Jaguar’s production line that we were called in to help with.

The problem

The customer wanted to start a new production line. They needed a new, bigger doorway to accommodate the automotive products they’d be making and moving.

As it stood, the doorway was only 4 metres wide. Syncreon and Jaguar Land Rover needed it to be 8.5 metres. They also needed a new industrial door that would fit the enlarged space and could be operated by remote control.

Our solution

As soon as the SDS team arrived on site, they started work, removing the existing door. They also removed all steelwork and cladding.

When the new opening was ready, they installed new steelwork to support the extra-large opening. They then installed a specialist industrial door, specifically designed for the space.

The sectional door we installed slides up and overhead – so it doesn’t require much opening space. It operates on a remote control, so factory workers can open and close it at the touch of a button. And it’s made from Kingspan composite steel, so it’s as tough as it gets.

As well as installing the door, our team finished the project with new flashings and cladding to make the door as insulated and weather-proof as possible.

The results

Within just one week, Syncreon had a new industrial door. And now, thanks to their bigger, better doorway, Syncreon has increased production on this line by an incredible 50%.

It’s much easier for them to move goods in and out of the warehouse. And they have a hard-wearing sectional door that will keep their business premises safe and secure.
